At 8:30 am on February 29th, 2020, on this day that only occurs once every four years, in this special period of the nation's fight against the COVID-19, our school launched an online defense for graduate students of 2017 academic year.
In order to do a good job in the postgraduate defense, on February 15th, the school’s party and government joint meeting reviewed and approved the "Implementation of Postgraduate Teaching and Dissertation Defense Work during the Epidemic situation of the School of Humanities, Economics and Law Rules". On the afternoon of February 19, the Graduate Teaching Office of the school conducted a online video defense process and rules training for all defense secretaries of the college, and formulated the "Guidelines for the Defense of Master's Degree in the School of Humanities and Economics in 2020" according to the " Rules", requiring each team to conduct a simulated video defense drill before the formal defense, familiarize themselves with the relevant links and processes, and making preparations early.
Three days before the formal defense, the defense secretary completed the collection of the electronic version of the dissertation, slides of the defense and the electronic version of the dissertation evaluation opinion for all degree applicants, and sent the electronic version of the thesis and slides of the defense to the members of the defense committee in advance For review, the specific time of the defense will be notified to each member of the defense committee, the graduate student teaching secretary and the defense supervisor one day before the defense.
On the morning of February 29th, the first group of Applied Economics officially started online video defense. The defense is divided into two periods, morning and afternoon. The meeting of each period starts 15 minutes in advance. All professors and students and professors of the supervision team enter the meeting to debug the equipment in advance to ensure that the defense starts on time. The replies of the seven respondent students strictly followed the defense process issued by the college. The entire process proceeded in an orderly manner, with clear and smooth voices in student statements, teacher questions and answers. The student's defense time is sufficient, most students exceed 50 minutes. Each respondent’s statement, question and answer, announcement of defense scores, and defense resolutions are all kept in audio files and screen-recorded video files.
In the next two weeks, the defense of other majors of the school will begin. Due to the orderly organization and careful preparation, although the defense is implemented online , the process is equally rigorous and standardized and the effect is smooth and perfect. The teachers and students cooperate with each other and make great efforts for this, and explore a feasible way for remote online defense.
